Amazing Headphones

For those of us who like to really hear our music, then a set of quality headphones is just the ticket.

Back in the day, consumer headphones were something you would slap on to hear your stereo better as you listened to your LP records.  But headphones today have evolved.  A whole new world of sound is available for your television, stereo, and gaming systems.

Leading manufacturers like Shure, Sennheiser, Bose, AKG, Audio Technica, and others have raised the bar with both the corded and wireless sets.

There are many different types of headphones which are listed below.

Earbuds

Earbuds are the tiny little headphones that you see people using with an iPod for example.  The basic little earbuds play music but that’s about it.  They do not create a seal or enter the ear canal, so the sound response cannot be maximized.

However they are inexpensive and very portable.  So these are great for kids that may abuse or lose them.

You can get noise-isolating earbuds which will cost a bit more money, but they help reduce noises such as voices that you hear while listening to music.

The most expensive earbuds available are the noise-cancelling earbuds.  They usually include technology that cancels out external noises so that you can listen to your music without being disturbed.

Over the Ear Headphones

When most people think of headphones, they think of the over the ear headphones.  Over the ear headphones are larger than the earbuds, and have ear-pads that cover the ears.  They are typically more expensive than earbuds, but provide a superior listening experience.

The 2 basic types of over the ear headphones are the ear-pad headphones and the full-size headphones.

Ear-pad headphones can either be open or closed-back headphones.  These headphones are very comfortable for hours of easy listening.  Some models are extremely portable as they fold up, while others are more suited to just at home enjoyment.

Full-size headphones are closed-back, ear-cup headphones (circumaural).  These headphones fully cover the ears offering maximum frequency levels of bass and treble, while blocking exterior noise.  However, this level of performance will cost more.

Wireless Headphones

Wireless headphones are becoming more popular with many folks that do not like cords.  Even though technology has improved greatly in this area, if you truly want great sound, then stick to the wire corded headphones.

There are many good wireless headphones on the market, but the wireless audio is very compressed and doesn’t deliver the rich sound that a wired set does.

Sennheiser 595 Headphones – Experience Exquisite Comfort

Sennheiser 595 Review

Sennheiser 595 headphonesThe Sennheiser 595 headphones are likely to be the most comfortable pair of headphones you will ever wear. The velour padding (much nicer than leather or pleather) really makes a big difference as well as the fact that they are so light.

Their clamping force is also quite low which is great for really long listening sessions. Their look is somewhat modern but with an understated class as well. Their build quality is really solid and don’t feel like they need to be handled with any extra care.

Click Here to Grab Your Sennheiser 595 Headphones at a Great Price!

Because of the E.A.R (ergonomic acoustic refinement) technology in them, the position of the headband is crucial. I find they need to be somewhat forward compared to other headphones. This isn’t really a big deal though, just experiment with it until you get the best sound. The cable is only on the left side which reduces clutter and is a smart choice on their part.

Sennheiser 595 – Sound Performance

The sound of the 595’s is not too bright (like Grados tend to be) or warm (like Sennheisers usually are), they seem to be somewhere between the two extremes. They are really well balanced and produce a very accurate representation of what tit is you’re feeding them. So if you feed them 128kbit MP3’s then that washy, phasey sound is exactly what you’ll hear.

If you are playing an old jazz record on an audiophile turntable setup however, expect great things from them. Their neutrality allows them to sound great on a wide variety of music. The bass is tight, clear and it extends nice and deep. If you are a bass lover you might want to nudge up your amp’s bass knob a little at times though.

The mids are very well balanced and perform best on piano and female vocals. Their detail is amazing, reverb tails are rich and the front to back perspective is there in all it’s glory. However, there is a small tendency for the midrange to get a little grainy at times so I would recommend using a solid state amp over a tube one where possible.

The highs are clear and sweet with the whole top end being a nice wholesome package of clarity and precision. The soundstage is really wide too with the stereo information at the extremes clearly audible and present. A good amp will increase the clarity, quality and tightness of the low end quite a bit so consider investing in a good solid state amp if you can. Although they do sound great connected straight to an iPod as well.

Well Balanced Performance by the HD595′s

If you want one good pair of headphones for listening to everything from hip hop to rock or even classical (plus the odd film or game too) then these are one of the those few headphones which can truly handle it all with ease. They are exceptionally well balanced, comfortable to a fault and look great. They have no real weaknesses so if you can afford them you’d be wise to get them immediately. The Sennheiser 595 headphones are a great product and an easy recommendation!

Sennheiser 555 Headphones Are Great for Media Rooms

A Quick Review of the Sennheiser 555 Headphones

Sennheiser 555

Sennheiser 555 Headphones

The Sennheiser 555 headphones look very similar to the 595 model which are undoubtedly one of the nicest sounding headphones out there. These might not sound as good, but they also don’t cost the same either (being roughly half the price). However, their durability and comfort is identical.

Click Here to Get Your Supremely Comfortable Sennheiser 555 Headphones!

Their design features the same minimalistic, clean, classy look with the silver and black color scheme and the cloth and metallic parts work well together. The Sennheiser HD555 headphones are designed to compete at the entry level and are supremely comfortable over long periods of listening. This is thanks to their smart design with large ear cups and ultra soft padding all round.  Many of the parts are user replaceable too so if a cable breaks or a driver blows there is no need to worry. Just buy a replacement part and switch it in.

The Sennheiser 555 Headphones are not for Traveling

You definitely don’t want to be traveling with these as they’re not the best headphones for walking around town or catching the subway with. They are too big, have an open design, don’t fold – portability is simply not what they are designed for. The open design lets the music you are hearing out to those around you and vice versa – all the noisy streets and people around you will be perfectly audible too. These are strictly for home listening or at least for use in a quiet place. The reason for this design is to create an improved soundstage which is the sound’s perspective. This is the back/front and left/right directionality of the sounds in the music or film.

The Sennheiser HD555′s boast E.A.R. Technology

The 555’s also have an internal sound reflector inside to bounce the sound from different angles. To further aid this, Sennheiser have added what they call E.A.R technology (ergonomic acoustic refinement). This is where the drivers have been repositioned to be aimed down the ear canal. The Duofol diaphragms are also meant to improve the spectrum and punch of the sound as well. The 555’s impedance is 50 ohms and have a frequency response of 15hz to 28khz. Their SPL is 112dB and total harmonic distortion is 0.2%.

The sound they produce is at a low to mid audiophile level and sound extremely mature for this price range. They exhibit control, finesse and a balance which are normally only found in headphones above $300 or so. Expect a staggering amount of detail, in fact, unless your MP3’s are full quality, you will hear the artifacts in all their gory detail. Their overall sound is detailed, smooth and full bodied – everything you want in a good pair of headphones. Out of the box they seem to be a little light on the bass so make sure you burn them in for a week or so and then the bass will normalize and become tighter.

The Sennheiser 555 Headphones Make Great Addition to Home Theater Room

These are best for people who love great sound but don’t want to spend a fortune to get it. Home theater lovers or film fanatics will probably be the biggest market for these. The Sennheiser 555 headphones are simply awesome!

AKG 702 Headphones Really Perform

AKG 702 Review

akg 702 headphones

AKG 702

The AKG 702 headphones are an open back dynamic design with a sensitivity of 105dB. Their frequency response is 10hz to 39.8khz and have an impedance of 62 ohms. Of course the cable is oxygen free copper and the plugs are gold plated too. The ear pads are large and fit around your ears so even if you have bigger ears, chances are it won’t touch them. This is great for long listening sessions as they won’t cause fatigue.

Click Here to Save a Bundle on Your AKG 702 Headphones!

These are reference-grade headphones from AKG that are designed to be neutral and flat in sound. This means that all the sonic detail and imaging is presented to you as is without hiding or exaggerating anything. To get the full effect of this, all you need to do is listen to another pair of headphones for a few days and then switch back to the 702’s. The difference will be obvious. Most headphones tend to add extra bass to make it more impressive or to the high end to make them feel more detailed and crisp. Well these don’t do that. What you feed them is exactly what you hear.

The Differences in the AKG 702′s and AKG 701′s

The main difference between the 702 and the 701 is that the 702 is black and has a detachable cable so it is easily upgradeable. The 701 doesn’t. The 701 is also tuned more to the highs while the 702 has a hair more bass and mids. For those that think AKG headphones are light on bass are mostly just used to hearing headphones that are very bass-heavy. These are bass-neutral. Also the low end has much more variation and tone compared to other headphones which produce a very flat, generic bass that always sounds the same.

AKG K702 Headphones – True Quality

The level of sonic detail with these headphones is immense and beats out headphones up to 6 times it’s price. The soundstage is unbelievable too. It presents an almost 3-dimensional experience with sounds coming from not only the left and right but in front of you and behind you too.

Since these are very high quality headphones, they deserve some good amplification to drive them. They pair well with both tube and solid state amps and benefit from both. With tube amps the sound takes on a slightly rounder, smoother sound and makes it a little sweeter. Solid state amps just increase the level of detail, add punch, increase the soundstage and the effect is truly impressive. Make sure you have a good source unit too like a decent quality CD player though. Be aware that these need a significant amount of burn-in so that they loosen up. While they do sound good out of the box, they really get going after about a month of loud playback.

Get Your AKG 702 Headphones and Make Your Ears Happy

These are not cheap headphones per say but their quality is far, far greater than their price and is the main reason why they have become a modern day classic. These are perfect for bedroom musicians, studio owners, audiophiles or anyone who appreciates amazing sound. The AKG 702 headphones outperform some of the big boys with ease and yet their price is quite low.

Denon AHD5000 Delivers Listening Luxury

An Impartial Denon AHD5000 Review

Denon AHD500 Design

Denon AHD5000

Denon AHD5000

The design of the Denon AHD5000 headphones is smart, well-considered and it all comes together extremely well. They just ooze quality and luxury from every angle. A good example of this is their beautiful mahogany ear cups. Another great touch is the ball-bearing-adjusted headband. Many little touches like these add to an incredible user experience.

Click Here to Get Your Denon AHD5000 Headphones & Pamper Yourself!

One notable feature they have is called the ‘Acoustic Optimizer’. This basically helps adjust the sound pressure in the front and back of the drivers for optimum performance. I don’t know how much of a contribution this makes but all I can tell you is that these headphones are jaw-droppingly good.

Exceptional Sound by the Denon AH-D5000 Headhones

The overall sound is warm and exceptionally rich. The bass is smooth, flat and deep while the midrange is true and very dynamic. The highs are ultra-detailed to a point where the things you hear in your favorite old albums will astound you. Their overall performance is breathtakingly vivid.

The really great thing about these AHD5000’s is that they will instantly place you in the ‘4-figure hi-fi league’ without spending anywhere near that kind of money. To get this type of fidelity on a traditional hi-fi system will easily cost you more than $3000. That’s one of the main benefits of a good pair of headphones like these.

Features:

  • Ultralight magnesium frame
  • Real mahogany wood housing
  • 50mm Neodymium magnets
  • Microfiber drivers
  • 1-year warranty
  • 1/4“ adapter

Burn-In:

An extensive ‘burn-in’ phase is required with these headphones. After about a week of nightly burn-in sessions with some loud rock music, these headphones should be good to go. Their response smoothes out, detail increases and they become much more coherent overall. Be sure to do this before judging them on their sound quality. Even though many reviews online have been done without burn-in, don’t make the same mistake they did.

Amplification:

If you’re a fan of anything beyond standard radio-format pop music, then be sure to do yourself a favor and buy a decent quality headphone amplifier. It’s almost a disservice to plug headphones of this quality straight into a computer, iPhone, iPad or soundcard. It just has so much more to offer with good quality amplification.

The Bad:

While the Denon AHD5000 are absolutely stellar headphones, they are not without a few, small downsides. The most obvious one (which should not be too much of an issue for most people looking to buy these) is of course, the price. These headphones are in no way cheap, however, their sound is nothing short of breathtaking. Since you are serious about sound this should not be an issue for you.

Another obvious one is the fact that they not designed to be portable or to be carried around with you. They are far too big and clunky for that purpose. They are definitely best left at home in your living/listening room where they can be left safe and sound.

These headphones from Denon are extremely impressive and find themselves firmly in the high-end headphones category. Will not disappoint.

About Denon:

Denon started life in a partnership with Columbia records and was their hardware producer. They have an outstanding 100-year track record as an excellent Japanese audio hardware manufacturer and the Denon AHD5000 is a fine addition to their lineup.

Sony 7506 Headphones on Sale

Sony 7506 Headphones Review

Sony 7506 Headphones

Sony 7506

The Sony 7506 has been a capable and dependable workhorse in the audio industry for decades. It remains extremely popular for live sound, post-production, broadcast and radio. These are the standby headphones demanded by many professional singers and for very good reason too. They are most likely to be found in the majority of studios around the world and are even used by the video industry.

Click Here to Get a Great Deal on Your Set of Sony 7506 Headphones!

There are many reasons for the 7506’s extreme popularity with just a few of them being their reliability, durability and sound quality. They have been carted around the world by thousands of users and their ruggedness is unparalleled.

They are black in color with red/blue left and right indicators, a collapsible headband/ear cup design and come with a nifty carry bag too.

Sony 7506 Sound

They sound incredibly accurate and clear. They also have a great punch to them as well as smoothness all the way from the low end to the ultra-highs. Another great achievement by Sony was the fact that these headphones sound just as good at low volumes as they do at high ones. Many times a pair of headphones only sound good when they are either loud or soft. Only a very classy pair of cans can deliver good sound at both extremes and the Sony 7506 headphones do this with ease. So not only are these insanely rugged they are also exceptional-sounding, even for the most demanding sound purist. The sound is driven by Neodymium magnets with 40mm drivers creating a frequency response of 10hz to 20khz.

Their impedance is also ideal for iPods, laptops, iPads, iPods and headphone amplifiers. This means their sound quality and volume will be optimal with modern devices. Another great feature is the respectable levels of isolation they provide. This keeps unwanted music out of the microphone if you are tracking a singer, and out of the ears of nearby people if you are working in a broadcast van.

Cons of the 7506 Headphones

The downside to these otherwise magnificent headphones is the fact that for some people they will feel a little strange on your head at first. It may take a week or two for your ears and head to adjust to the feeling of the Sony’s ear pads.

Specifications:

  • The cable is more than long enough for most uses at over 8 feet long.
  • Their cabling is oxygen free copper and is complete with gold connectors to ensure the highest-quality reproduction possible.
  • They are a circum-aural type headphone with a 63 Ohm impedance and a 106dB sensitivity.
  • They come with a 6-month warranty but it’s highly likely you’ll never need it.

Conclusion:

For a mid-priced pair of headphones like these you can never expect the earth, but these somehow deliver very close to it. It is no wonder they have become a true industry standard.

There is absolutely no reason why you should not buy these for simple home listening. The Sony 7506 headphones will simply crush any pair of consumer headphones around this price range.

My Take On The Sennheiser HD 428

Nice Sound for Small Money with the Sennheiser HD 428 Headphones

Sennheiser HD 428

Sennheiser HD 428

The only items in the Sennheiser HD 428 box are the headphones themselves, a nice long 10 meter cable and a 1/8th-inch to 1/4-inch jack converter. The cable is ridiculously long but a good idea is to roll it into a figure-of-8 and use either an elastic band or sandwich bag twisty to keep the length under control.

Get Your Sennheiser HD 428 Headphones for Under $50

Sennheiser HD 428 Headphones are Comfortable

They are a circumaural design which means that the ear cups padding actually sits around and not on the ear itself. This makes them extremely comfortable so you can wear them for hours on end. This makes them great for gaming, watching movies or just listening to music for a long time.

Key Features of the Sennheiser HD 428 Phones

The frequency response on these headphones goes from 18 hz to 22 kHz with a maximum sound pressure output of 110 dB. Its total harmonic distortion is less than .1%. The headphones (with the cable) weigh 7.3 ounces and they come with a two-year warranty.

The 428’s are extremely comfortable due to their soft and plush leatherette ear-pads and headband and they’re exceptionally light. All this makes them so comfortable you will forget you’re even wearing headphones. They’re also good for people who wear glasses too. Many over-ear headphones are just not compatible with glasses but these seem to work just fine.

Cons:

  • I’m not a big fan of blister packaging as it’s almost impossible to open. At the best of times you need a good pair of scissors to get to your product and that is definitely the case with these. That’s one of the minor gripes I have with the 428’s.
  • Keep in mind that these do not fall flat or have a carrying case. This makes them more suited to home use only.

Sound:

Their sound quality is absolutely excellent, however, don’t expect a pair of audiophile headphones. These headphones definitely have a bass-driven sound making them ideal for fans of hip-hop or dance music. The detail and imaging is excellent but when compared to very high-end headphones, they don’t match up. But for $50 it’s very tough to beat the Sennheiser HD 428 headphones. They really do sound excellent. After listening to 3 of my favorite old rock CDs I realized these headphones added a whole new perspective to them. I even heard some details I had never heard before. They have a very nice, strong volume too which is ideal for iPods, iPhones, iPads or any digital device with a low output.

Build Quality:

They are a sealed design, which means you’ll be hearing much more of the music and a lot less of the traffic outside, the neighbor mowing his lawn or the air-conditioning unit in your room. Plus, the people around you will not be subjected to your taste in music either.

They have very strong, high-output neodymium magnets in the drivers which helps to produce good, strong bass. Interestingly, the shell of the headphones is actually coated in a rubber protective sheath to keep it from getting damaged.

These are a really great, no-frills pair of headphones from Sennheiser. If you’re curious about Sennheiser headphones and want to get your feet wet, the Sennheiser HD 428 headphones are a great pair to do just that.

Save a Bundle on AKG 240 Headphones

The Best AKG 240 Headphones Review

AKG 240 headphones

AKG 240 Headphones

The AKG 240 headphones are a timeless classic and for good reason. They are highly accurate, clear and durable. This makes them perfect for recording studios or anyone who appreciates good sound. This rare combination of qualities has made them an industry standard headphone in recording studios all over the world.

Click Here to Save a Bundle on the AKG 240 Headphones!

Their overall sound is one of accuracy and detail. What you feed them is what you will hear. The low end is flat, deep and articulate but not obnoxious. This is exactly the type of bass I prefer. The treble is clear, smooth and almost three-dimensional. This is where all the detail lies and these definitely deliver in that department. The midrange is the most difficult for designers to get right but these clearly have no problems here. Their midrange is wide and vivid while still being honest.

The AKG Acoustics K-240 Studio Headphones are the perfect headphones for home listening. Whether you use them for watching DVD’s, listening to music, playing video games or simply watching TV, these will give you one of the best listening experiences available.

The new, updated version now has a lower impedance which allows them to be used with iPods, computers and musical instruments without needing to turn up the volume too much. This is a great improvement and was much needed in my opinion.

Since they are a semi-open design, the background noises in your room are not eliminated completely and people around you will hear some of your music. However, this design is critical in delivering a true and almost speaker-like soundstage. Listening to classical music on them is a beautiful experience. Closing your eyes you can almost ‘see’ the individual musicians and where they are sitting. AKG have done a superb job on the accurate reproduction that these deliver.

While their looks are a little utilitarian, they’re also understated and professional. They definitely don’t scream: “Look at me, I’m expensive and fancy!” I appreciate that, especially when I’m traveling with them and want to minimize any chances of theft. If you’re like me and are a little rough on your equipment, no need to worry, these can take it. Most of the vital components are user-replaceable and quite affordable too.

To get the best out of these, be sure to adjust them to your particular head shape. Everybody’s head is different and it’s important to compensate for that.  Some people have complained about them being uncomfortable. However, these people had them adjusted incorrectly in most cases.

A Good Amp Enhances the AKG 240 Headphones

As with many headphones, the AKG 240 benefit greatly from a good headphone amplifier. The details, depth and soundstage all improve dramatically with one. So a few years down the line when you want to turbo-charge them, just buy a decent amp and away you go.

The sheer number of glowing reviews on Amazon for these bares testament to the insane value they headphones deliver and at an amazingly low price too. If you’re looking for a rugged, insanely great-sounding pair of headphones that doesn’t cost a fortune, then the AKG 240 headphones are definitely for you.

Sennheiser HD 448 Headphones on Sale

My No-Holds-Barred Sennheiser HD 448 Review

Sennheiser 448

Sennheiser 448

The Sennheiser HD 448 headphones are a somewhat new model and are designed for the modern headphone user in mind. They have Neodymium drivers and are a closed-back design. This means that they have a sound-insulating material in the ear cups to prevent audio from getting in or out. So basically when you put them on your head you will only be getting the pure audio signal with no distracting noises.

Click Here for a Smokin Deal on the Sennheiser HD 448 Headphones!

They also employ a circumaural design which means that the earpads don’t rest on your ears, but rather on your head around your ears. They really feel like they are floating on your head and are very light. The padding is some kind of pleather-like material and the overall result is extreme comfort. Of course they are fully adjustable too which is pretty much a necessity nowadays. They have a single cord out the left ear, which is awesome because cords are a pain, get tangled and can be a big mess to use. The cable is 4.6 feet, which is pretty long for general use. It also comes with a 5-foot extension cable in case you want to listen to the TV, play Xbox 360 or PS3. The metal sidings add a nice bit of tough, industrial style and overall their look is cool with a hint of bling.

The Sennheiser HD 448 Headphones Deliver Great Sound

In terms of the audio quality they have very detailed mids and highs and have a nice thick low end. They have substantial bass to them, which can be great for rock and hip hop, so if you listen to these genres a lot, they’re perfect. The tone is clean, the dynamic range is large and the transients pop nicely. The input is 32 ohm which means they need very little amplification to sound good and have a nice volume to them. These seem to be designed for iPods and MP3 players and their price, sound, looks and functionality are a perfect match.

I keep pretty up to date with the headphone market these days and I have to say that Sennheiser has done an excellent job on these 448’s. These are the update to their HD400 which is considered to be their mid range product line. So in terms of bang for your buck, these are top-notch. They sound great, they’re super-comfortable, they’re bassy and most importantly, they’re affordable. If you want something that looks good and sounds excellent, these are just the right pair.

The only downside to them (let’s face it all products have at least one) is that the bass is not highly detailed. It’s there, it’s big and warm, but it’s not ultra-articulate. This however, is pretty much expected in this price range.

I really like these and would have to recommend them to anyone looking for a good-sounding pair of very inexpensive, yet durable and stylish headphones for their iPod, iPhone or MP3 player. The Sennheiser HD 448 headphones represent amazing value and you simply can’t go wrong with them.

Sennheiser PC 360 Gaming Headphones – A Gamer’s Delight

Are The Sennheiser PC 360 Headphones Junk?

Sennheiser PC 360

Sennheiser PC 360

The Sennheiser PC 360 is a professional gaming headset much like the Astra A40’s. But unlike those it sells for $50 more at around $250.

Click Here to Save Big on the Sennheiser PC 360!

It is basically a headset mic built on top of a set of audiophile headphones. You may be familiar with Sennheiser for their microphones and wireless guitar systems in the music world, however, they are also known for their high quality headphones. Many people are very curious to see how these headphones perform.

While they are made for the PC as a stereo gaming headset they are actually very versatile. Out of the box you get the headset with it’s 10-foot cable and twin gold 2.5mm jacks for voice and audio. That’s it.

The design of these is really nice and they look very similar to the Sennheiser 595 headphones. They’re seem to be made of a really interesting plastic composite too. It feels super flexible and I’ve never felt anything like it. It seems like no matter what you do to them, they will not snap or break. This plastic also makes them unbelievably light (10 ounces) so they become very comfortable after a few minutes. You forget you even have them on.

Their frequency response is extremely wide measuring from 15hz to 28 khz (beyond the spectrum of human hearing). The Sennheiser PC 360 are an open-ear design and have grills on the sides to let air in. This helps to deliver a bigger sound and better directional cues which is crucial for gaming. The boom mic has a mute built right into it so when you lift it up it mutes itself automatically. It also has a nice little flex elbow that allows you to position it as close to your mouth as you like. The mic itself has a very large diaphragm, is noise-cancelling and stays out of your line of sight when gaming.

On the right ear cup there is an on-ear volume knob. This is a really nice touch and isn’t offered on many gaming headsets. The headband has a very large adjustment range so any size head is catered for. The headband and ear cups have a nice, luxurious velvet on them. The ear cups fit completely around the ear without touching the ear itself and the drivers don’t push against your ears. These design features make them incredibly comfortable to wear for hours on end. This is definitely a headphone for more than just gaming as you will definitely want to listen to all your music through them.

The only real downside to these is that the ear-cups tilt up and down but not in or out. This makes them a little tricky to travel with but it’s not the end of the world.

Overall, the Sennheiser PC 360 Headset for Pro Gaming just might be the highest quality pair of gaming headphones in the world. If you’re really into gaming, these are a must-buy. It’s very rare for a product on Amazon to have a 5-star average rating but the Sennheiser PC 360 does.

Save on the Shure 535 Earphones

Shure 535-  A “Shure” Thing or a “Shure” Failure?

Shure 535

Shure 535

Shure has established itself in the audiophile community as one of the most elite brands in the business.  After a five year long wait, the Shure 535 model appears on the scene to surpass other earbud models that have come before them.  So we decided to give a pair a go  to see how they stood up to other earbud headphones on the market today.

Click Here to Get a Great Deal on the Shure 535 Earbuds!

Is the Shure 535 a good earphone?

These are some really nice earphones.  The sound quality is amazing and the design is top of the line in my opinion.  Let’s take a look at the design and function specs of the 535s.

Design:  The design of these earphones is really nice.  They are triple definition micro driver headphones.  Each headphone has its own built in dedicated tweeter and dual woofers, which is like having an entire sound system in your ears.  What is unique to the Shure 535s that other Shure models that I know of don’t have is the detachable chord technology.  This will allow you to be able to detach your chord if it becomes frayed or damaged without having to buy a whole new set of earphones.  All you would have to do is buy a new chord, and you would be set to go.  They come in two really slick designs, and have a flexible chord that allows you to easily place them in your ear.

The extras that come with this thing are also much better than any traditional set of earphones.  It comes with a durable carrying case, adapter, airplane adapter, inline volume adapter that will allow you to control the volume of your headphones, seven different pairs of ear tips of different sizes and an ear tip cleaner.  The only down side to these earphones is the fact that the earphone bulbs are a bit big.  After having them in your ears for a while they can tend to be a bit uncomfortable.

Function:  The earphones themselves are sound isolating earphones with about 37 decibels of isolation.  So unlike other headphones these block out outside noise, which makes them a good choice for producers, audiophiles, and those who are working with video sound production.  The sound stages on the Shure 535s are incredible, and as good as the Shure 530s.  The reason why is because the 530s and the 535s both have the same sound design technology.  So, if you have a pair of 530s I would hold off on upgrading to the 535s because other than a few small differences, you will get the exact same sound quality from these as you would from the 530s. However, if you don’t already have a pair of 530s I would definitely invest in the 535s because it is a little better package.  I have listened to everything on these things and it all sounds very good.  It’s awesome for both movies and all genres of music.

What Do People Think About the Shure 535 Earphones?

After looking at many reviews on both product websites and professional websites such as Cnet and egadgets, here is what we have seen people saying about the Shure 535

Pros:  People absolutely love the sound quality of the Shure 535s.  There were nothing but rave reviews about it everywhere.  You can listen to everything from movies to music and it all sounds amazing.  On most sites like amazon and best buy these head phones are given four and a half out of five stars.  Both Cnet and Egadget gave the Shure 535 four stars.

Cons:  While the overall majority of the comments made on the Shure 535 were good, there were a few people who had some issues with the design.  Like us, they found that the tips to be a bit big and uncomfortable.  There were also mixed feelings about the detachable chord feature.  Many people talked about how the chord can be expensive to replace, and can only be gotten through shure.  Also the price was a big issue for many.  These are not cheap headphones.  The retail at most placed for around $500.  People feel that for a $500 price tag the Shure 535s should be absolute perfection.

Final Thoughts:  The Shure 535s are a magnificent set of headphones, but they are not for everyone.  If you have the 530s, or even the 500’s, I would test drive a pair before buying to see if it is worth the investment.  They are on the high end of headphone prices, but you get what you pay for. You can find it for cheaper that $500 if you search the internet.  We found the Shure 535 earphones cheapest on Amazon.  You can click here to see the pricing.   In sound quality they are excellent, and in our opinion well worth it if you are an audiophile.
